"Twas a woman who drove me to drink. I never had the courtesy to thank her."
Personal
Full Name:Meng-Wen Luo
Gender:Male
Age:31 years of age
Element:Earth
Alignment:Earth Kingdom
Location:Ba Sing Se
Appearance:Athletically built with a rather brawny physique, Meng-wen easily towers over the typical earth kingdom citizen at six foot three inches. His bronzed skin is expected considering his trade and with the amount of time he spends traveling back and forth cities. He has short, soft but very unkempt brown hair which reaches just past his ears. His face is squared and his jaw rather angular, with sharp, piercing olive-green irides framed behind a porcelain-white mask. His thick eye brows which are always furrowed pair along side the irritated frown he always seems to wear. He also sports a small stubble, as he feels true men require facial hair hair of some sort.
As for the drunks' attire, he wears rather flamboyant cloths of silks and cotton, merely as a get-up for his customers. His long red robes, puffy trousers and head dresses stick out like a sore thumb in the busiest crowds and are quick to turn heads, which is what a traveling merchant much like himself would want, attracting the attention of many potential customers and creates the many instances where he is raided by a hoard of thieves and barely manages to escape.
Personality:Meng Wen is always drunk, rarely ever truly sober, and how he acts towards others essentially boils down to how far gone Meng Wen actually is.
On a usual day, after a few good cups of wine, he still tends to be the spiteful, aging man with a sour expression on his face. Still capable of thinking his thoughts and actions thoroughly and tends to keep mostly to himself. He isn't the least bit interested in what you have to say, with a patiences as thin as his, and easily irritated. He is very independent and self reliant; everything is done by himself and only himself and is stubborn when it comes to those who are offering help. Quitting is out of the question for him, he is determined to finish whatever he starts, no matter how long it takes.
He is particularly blunt in his speech and replies in short, concise sentences (if not just a grunt or sigh) with a gaze which tends to ward off people from approaching him. Small talk is not an option for him, It's either you buy his wares, or you go away.
Despite his past, his allegiance lies with himself first and foremost, with the Earth kingdom and everyone else in it last. He, in no way, works as an antagonistic character but neither is he the protagonist. His actions are heavily based on his own morals and codes.
But after a few good jars, Meng-wen becomes much more approachable, merrier but tends to be the very obnoxious and loud. As he's become so intoxicated, his thoughts and actions aren't as well thought out and he thinks more with a balled fist rather than his brain. His speech becomes slurred and he tends to speak of absolute nonsense at times. His drunken antics tend to lead him into sticky situations with guards here and there, but nothing seems to phase him at this point.
Hobbies:Above all, Travelling is one of his biggest passions. His line as a soldier had always kept him bound in the walls of Ba Sing Se and had sparked a massive curiosity to the world beyond the stone walls, which is why, despite what he may say, he absolute loves his trade. Travelling from city to city had always been a great source of thrill for him and hopes to one day explore into the territories even farther beyond the Earth Kingdom itself.
Another hobby of his is obviously, drinking. He'd drink to his hearts content until he'd black out in the gutters somewhere.
Lastly, Meng-Wen surprisingly enjoys cooking. Its more of a recent hobby as his long travels often requires him to camp in places where ready cooked food isn't always available.
History:Meng when was born into a family of six, being the eldest of the six siblings. His father was an outstanding soldier, who served the Earth Kingdom with such dedication and it was only natural for Meng-Wen to follow in his fathers footsteps.
He was a good child, still had a very stern and sour look on his face, even as a young boy. His mother was a stay-at-home sage, a great wife and a very loving mother. His father was more of the backbone in the house; everything he said was final. Meng-wen attended school like any other kid but, along side his younger brother, received hard, vigorous training from their father when they got home, uncoverign their ability to bend at a rather young age.
As both boys got older, they were enrolled into the Army and became soldiers themselves. They were exceptional soldiers, taking from their father. It wasn't till he was sent on a mission with other men outside the walls of Ba Sing Se where he had developed his passion for travelling and exploring the world beyond it.
Years passed and his father soon passed away. It was around this time where he would meet his first and last wife, Liang. She was a pretty girl, four years his junior. She was the only person to have ever managed to see through his solid exterior. He retired from his role in the army to settle down with Liang, in hopes of becoming a father himself. Though they did love each other at first, people change and Liang and Meng-wen were no exception. She became rather a nuisance to him, as the more years they spent together the more she was persistent with her nagging. Back then, Meng-wen sold only common fabrics which were very easy to come by, which his income was very low, but nevertheless he was determined to keep working. This often meant days with Liang to accompany herself.
She eventually began to see an Inn keeper during the long periods where Meng-wen would be gone. This continued on for many months till one day, as he was returning from a long journey, he was simply left with a letter explaining how Liang could no longer be with him, a man who showed little to no affection to his wife at all and that she had fallen in love with someone else.
Though it may appear that it never truly bothered him as much as it should have, he did pay the inn keeper a quick and painful visit. He was very much affected and was one of the main reasons why he had turned to drinking. He continued to work as a merchant, travelling to farther horizons within the earth kingdom. He began to fund for finer fabrics and silks which more recently had been the only kinds which he ever sells, with customers ranging from middle class to even nobles.
Recently, Meng-wen's business has been rather successful, though he would prefer to exapnd his sell his sales to outside the earth kingdom with the company of his long time friend sweet, ol' yang, a gemsok bull.
